In this paper, a system will be presented that takes a user-centered approach to the design of an Internet television system. The system, called DorianTV, provides a “soft convergence” between television and the Internet. The system exploits the networked environment of the web, while replicating the ease of use and familiarity of traditional television.
Although the internet is a network of interconnected nodes, television distribution over the internet still
mimics that of over air, cable, and satellite distribution, that is, a broadcast model. It is the aim of this
article to propose a network model for television distribution. Discussed will be the advantages of the
network model for content creators, traditional broadcast companies, advertisers, and end-users (view-
ers).
